Advanced Cosmetic Dentistry

Your smile can have a huge impact, not only in your own life, but also in the lives of others. This powerful tool helps make positive first impressions, boosts your confidence and can even bring you success in your relationships and occupation. If you hesitate to share or constantly hide your smile because of “bad teeth,” there is something you can do to change all that. It might be time to consider smile enhancement with a few cosmetic dental procedures. Even just a small step toward a brighter, more beautiful smile can recharge your self-esteem and largely affect your life for the better. Here are just a few treatments Dr. Castle uses to erase imperfections and bring new life and confidence to your smile.

Teeth Whitening

The dentist can erase most extrinsic stains (on the outermost layer of the enamel) with this safe, quick and inexpensive procedure. It works best for discoloration caused by food stains or general wear. First, Dr. Castle takes a custom impression of your teeth for a specialized splint (mouthguard). In only a day or two this bleaching appliance is ready for you to pick up, along with a special bleaching agent. Each night, you use the mouthguard to hold the whitening material around your teeth for about three or four hours. At the end of one or two weeks you have significantly whiter teeth. Once you have reached the desired brightness you can reapply treatment occasionally to help maintain your brighter, whiter smile. However, it doesn’t work for everyone. To know for sure of you are a candidate for teeth whitening, visit Dr. Castle first. She can determine the extent of your discoloration and recommend the best treatment.

Porcelain Veneers

If you have slight imperfections in the shape and alignment of your teeth or severe discoloration, you should consider this cosmetic treatment. Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin, shell-like restorations the dentist bonds directly to the surface of your teeth. This treatment usually requires two appointments. Dr. Castle shaves down the slightest layer of the enamel to make room for veneers. Then she takes an impression and custom-designs the veneers to match and enhance the individual characteristics of your smile. This requires a high degree of skill and attention to detail. During your next visit, she cements the restorations and once in place the veneers will feel and function just like your natural teeth. However, keep in mind that custom veneers are a permanent solution and not something you can reverse. Also, if you hope to prolong the life of your veneers, you should not use them to open packaging or bite non-food items.  You should get your teeth whitened prior to having veneers treatment if Dr. Castle recommends teeth whitening.

Dental Crowns

Due to extreme damage or decay, you might require a dental crown for a full restoration. A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap the dentists places over the existing tooth to restore size, shape and strength. Crowns can replace missing teeth, provide support for damaged teeth and even improve functional chewing problems. This treatment usually requires at least two visits. Dr. Castle cleans and prepares the natural tooth, cutting it down to make room for the restoration and eliminating decay and infection. She also takes an impression of your mouth so the lab technicians can fabricate your crown from high-grade porcelain, gold or a combination of the materials. Then she fits a temporary crown of plastic or metal over your tooth to provide protection while you wait for your subsequent appointment. For the next stage, Dr. Castle removes the temp and fits your completed crown in place. She makes any minor adjustments to bite and fit before permanently cementing it in place. This time tested treatment helps relieve pain and allows you to return to full dental function.

Adult Clear Braces

Many people are unhappy with the crowding, spacing or alignment of their teeth but do not want to deal with metal brackets and wires. Fortunately, clear braces allow you to correct your smile without the hassle of traditional orthodontics. Dr. Castle evaluates your smile and analyzes your bite to make sure you are a candidate for clear braces. Then she creates digital scans of your teeth with 3-D imaging to develop a treatment plan. She uses these images to develop a set of clear aligning trays. In general, you wear a set of these removable aligners for two weeks before moving on to the next set. Though you can take your aligners out to eat or clean your teeth, you must commit to wearing them 20 plus hours a day if you want results. Then, little by little and week by week your teeth move into proper position. You have intermittent appointments with Dr. Castle to check your progress, and once your teeth have reached the final position, your treatment is completed. However, you must wear a retainer to hold the position or it will slip out of place. Clear braces are a comfortable, affordable and easy to manage orthodontic solution.
